2008 Summer Internship Program

Benefits Provided to Interns

Stipend

The Catalina Conservancy will provide $70 per week which will be devoted to a group food budget. Individuals will also receive $10 per day for incidentals. In some cases interns will need additional funds for such expenses as personal needs, dining out when possible or recreational activities.

A Stipend for successful program completion in the amount of $500.00 will be provied if the intern concludes the entire program (June 16 – August 22, 2008) satisfactorily. If the intern does not complete the entire program, the stipend will be reduced 50%.

Meals

Food and drink for regular meals are covered by the food and incidentals stipend mentioned above. Interns can prepare their meals at the fully-equipped camp kitchen facilities.

Housing

No-cost housing is provided by the Conservancy. The housing may include a tent camp with showers and rest rooms. Separate tents for males and females.

Travel to and from Catalina Island

The Conservancy will provide one (1) boat trip at a specific departure time from theLong Beach Harbor to Catalina Island and one (1) return boat trip at a specific departure time at no cost to the intern. Travel from point of origin to the Long Beach Harbor is at the intern’s expense. Any additional travel is at the intern’s expense.

Transportation on the Island

The Conservancy will provide work-related and limited personal on-Island transportation.

Pets and Vehicles

Pets and vehicles may not be brought to the Island by interns.

Insurance

Workmans Compensation will be provided. Accident insurance will cover medical treatment, should an injury occur, and the Intern has no other medical coverage. First-Aid trained personnel are provided by the Conservancy.
