| ABOUT THE NATIVE PLANT NURSERY |
 |
In the late 1980s, the Catalina Island Conservancy established a native plant
nursery at Middle Ranch to provide plant and seed material for its revegetation
needs on Santa Catalina Island. Plants are grown from seed or cutting material
collected from plants growing in the wild on the island. Plant restoration goals
are varied and may include rare plant conservation, erosion control, and habitat
restoration. |
Mr. James H. Ackerman, after whom the Nursery is named, has been a major supporter
of the Nursery from its very beginnings. He is a Conservancy Benefactor Member
and has also served on the Conservancy's Board of Director's.
