Special Channel Islands trip with the Conservancy

The Catalina Island Conservancy invites you and your guests for a day cruise to Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands in the northern California Channel Islands. We will board the Island Packers boat, the Islander, in Ventura Harbor at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 31st, returning to Ventura Harbor around 5:00 p.m. Island Packers has over 36 years of experience operating tours in the waters around the California Channel Islands. A box lunch is provided. Guests are asked to bring their own beverages in a non-glass container (cans and plastic are okay). Limited beverages are also available on board for purchase. Cost is $85 per person for Conservancy members and $90 per person for non-members. Children, ages 3-12 are $75 per child for members and $80 per child for non-members. Santa Cruz Island is located about 20 miles from the mainland coast. Being the largest Channel Island, Santa Cruz is also the most diverse with interesting geological features including two mountain ranges, many canyons and a rugged shoreline. At least 600 plant species, well over 120 species of land birds including the endemic Island scrub jay, and a vast expanse of wilderness area exist for the curious to explore by land or sea. We will disembark at Scorpion Cove, at the East End of Santa Cruz. Visitors step from the boat onto a ladder and climb a few rungs to the short pier. On Anacapa Island, we will disembark at the East Anacapa Landing Cove. Visitors depart the boat by stepping onto a ladder and climbing several rungs to a wooden dock. From the dock, there is a winding set of over 150 stairs that take you to the island plateau about 200 feet above sea level for stunning coastal views. Once on the plateau the hiking is easy, and you will find a small visitor center with a picnic area and outhouse style restrooms. A historic lighthouse still operates on the island. Availability is limited. For more details, please call Jeanne McKay at (562) 437-8555 ext. 221. Photo: Hiking on Anacapa Island Photo by Island Packers |
