ISLAND SCHOLARS
The Conservancy’s arm of Island Scholars consists of high-achieving 4th grade students at Avalon Schools. As part of our adventures, we’ll be traveling to some of the wilder areas of Catalina Island’s living laboratory.

By the end of the school year, the Conservancy’s Island Scholars will be able to:

• Identify the characteristics of a good leader/role model and develop/display those characteristics in their own conduct.
• Describe the living and nonliving parts of ecosystems and discuss roles within those ecosystems.
• Classify organisms based on characteristics (diurnal/crepuscular/nocturnal or herbivorous/carnivorous/omnivorous, for example).
• Explain the purpose of, and need for, conservation efforts on Santa Catalina Island.
• Create and edit a slide show, video documentary, or other visual project showing the progress made during the year’s activities.
