PROGRAMS FOR LOCALS

It is vital to the Conservancy's mission that it helps local residents of Catalina create a sense of connection to the Island on whichg they live. As unbelievable as it may seem, a significant number of Islanders have never been outside the City Limits of Avalon. The Families in Nature program, scheduled during the winter months when tourism is low, allows adults and their families to get out of town and experience all that the Island has to offier.

We see the children on Catalina, in addition to those on the mainland, as the future stewards of the Island. It is critical  for them to learn about Catalina's fragile ecosystems, and understand the importance of keeping the wildlands wild. Our Education Department facilitates an array of programs including Kids in Nature, REGI, Island Stewards, I.S.L.A.N.D., Course Catalina and Catalina Vistas to ensure that Catalina's unique nature lives on in generations to come.

Avalon students enjoy a weekend of fun, exploration, and education at Camp Emerald Bay.
