MOBILE NATURE CENTER

The goal of this project is to provide a mobile interactive educational experience across the Island by reaching out to a broader population of people who enjoy Catalina: including residents, campers, hikers, boaters and others, encouraging all to share in the mission of the Conservancy - to be a responsible steward of the lands through a balance of conservation, education and recreation. As a visitor, the Mobile Nature Station will allow you to:

  • Engage with trained naturalists to find out all the ways to get involved with the Conservancy through memberships, events, eco-tourism and volunteer activities
  • Attend conservation and education programs, including interpretive hikes and special talks to learn about conservation efforts to protect native plants and animals, including the battle with invasive plants

The Mobile Nature Station at a membership event in Little Harbor.
  • Discover and access the multitude of recreational opportunities the island offers
  • View various short videos bringing to life the beauty and bountiful opportunities this special Island and its 42,000 acres of protected wild lands provide

Key features of this exhibit include:
  • Easy mobility for use all year round, from Two Harbors in Summer, to various events (e.g., Earth Day, Jazz Trax, Flying Fish Festival, Youth Camps) throughout the rest of the year
  • Interactive educational and interpretive activities to benefit campers, students and families
  • Multi-media capabilities, including video, Isla Earth radio downloads and internet connection
  • Online registration via internet portal for activities, events and membership

Contributions to the Mobile Nature Station project will help the Conservancy better reach, educate and engage visitors on the importance of protecting and restoring Catalina Island, as well as provide numerous opportunities for everyone to get involved.
