ISLAND ECOLOGY TRAVEL PROGRAM

Islands and archipelagos around the world share similar issues as we experience on Catalina Island. The Island Ecology Travel Program offers an opportunity for members, supporters and their friends and families to join Conservancy naturalists, scientists and other experts on inspiring journeys of discovery to learn from other islands - both locally and abroad. The knowledge we bring back can then be used to guide future plans and decisions made on Catalina.

For more information on how to participate in these exciting expeditions, please contact Jen Poyer, Special Events Manager, or by phone at (562) 437-8555 x231. Please note, all expeditions in the Island Ecology Travel Program are paid for entirely by the participants.

Exploring California's Channel Islands: San Miguel Island
September 25, 2010
Cuyler Harbor, San Miguel Island
Join the Catalina Island Conservancy as we explore the westernmost of all of the California Channel Islands, San Miguel.  Wind and weather constantly sweep across the North Pacific to batter the shores of this remote island.  This extreme weather creates a harsh but profoundly beautiful environment.  The 9,500-acre island is primarily a plateau about 500 feet in elevation, but two 800-foot rounded hills emerge from its wild, windswept landscape.  This day trip with Island Packers will depart from Ventura Harbor and will offer four hiking options on San Miguel Island.

July 13, 2011 through July 26, 2011

Traveling with experts from Zegrahm Expeditions aboard the luxury cruising ship the Clipper Odyssey, this expedition cruise from Scotland's Orkney and Shetland Islands to the soaring bird cliffs of the Faroe Islands and the hot springs and glacier-carved fjords of Iceland present the finest highlights of northern European waters during the height of summer.  Sail the same routes as Viking seafarers to encounter glaciers and geysers, waterfalls and wildflowers, whales and seals, hot springs and a profusion of seabirds.
