Friday October 26: Tour of Western Foundation Vertebrate Zoology Bird Museum (10:00 am to 11:30 am)
Come join a tour of the collections of the Western Foundation Vertebrate Zoology located in Camarillo (about 20 mins. from the Ventura Beach Marriott Hotel).  The collections are among the largest in the world and are composed of more than 190,000 sets of bird eggs representing approximately 4,000 species, more than 18,000 nests, more than 55,000 bird study skins, and a library of over 8,000 books and monographs on birds and natural history. The library also houses more than 400 bird and natural history journal serials, and a large collection of the field notes of collectors and scientists. (Limited to 20 people; $5/person, pay with registration.) The WFVZ field trip is now FULL.

Directions to the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology Museum:

From Ventura: take Hwy 101 south to the Las Posas Rd. off-ramp in Camarillo, and turn right at the end of the off-ramp. Follow Las Posas for 0.8 miles to the intersection with Pleasant Valley Rd. Turn left onto Pleasant Valley, and follow it east for 1.6 miles to where it crosses the railroad tracks and comes to a stop sign. Be careful of traffic crossing at this intersection, since it does not stop. Proceed east after the stop sign to the first left -- Calle San Pablo. Turn left here.  The Foundation is the fifth building up on the left (439 Calle San Pablo).

For additional information, please see the WFVZ website (www.wfvz.org); call us between 9 and 4 Monday-Friday (805/388-9944); or send us an e-mail message (bookkeeper@wfvz.org).
