25th Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup
A record 554 SCUBA divers entered the waters of Avalon Harbor on February 25, 2006 and hauled out an estimated 6,500 pounds of trash, during the Silver Anniversary of the Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup. The annual event is sponsored by the Catalina Conservancy Divers, one of four support groups of the Catalina Island Conservancy. The Divers carry on important research and surveys of the Island’s nearshore waters. Sponsors donated more than $29,000 in prize giveaways, and approximately 8,500 raffle tickets were sold. All proceeds support the Catalina Conservancy Divers and the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber.
