“Strenuous” –These projects are focused on planting native seedlings at various sites using tools such as mechanical augers, digging bars, and post-hole diggers to break the ground. Participants need to be in good physical condition to handle repeated planting projects over many days and temperatures dropping to frost level.
Breaking Ground Description
Project: Plant native seedlings for our Catalina Habitat Improvement and Restoration Program (CHIRP). In this phase of the program, participants will help us plant native coastal chaparral vegetation in areas where we’ve removed invasive plants. Participants may also help with other restoration, mitigation or landscaping projects. Finally, there is an opportunity to help construct habitat protection exclosures in our recent burn area.
