CONSERVANCY COMMUNICATIONS

The Marines have left the island. Thank you for your support and patience during the road work and also for your generous hospitality to the Marines.

UPDATE: The Conservancy has contracted with Jordahl to asphalt another 0.4 miles of Stage Road. It will be the next .4 miles from Farnsworth Loop heading down towards Wishbone.

June 8-10, Tuesday 7am - Thursday 5pm
Stage Road will be closed for 3 days, June 8-10. Heavy vehicles with knobby tires and long vehicles like buses will not be allowed back on until Thursday, June 17th. The detour routes we recently used will be available again:
Leaving town for the interior via East End and Renton Mine Rd
Coming back to town from the interior via Divide Road then left down Memorial Rd thru the garden

The Catalina Island Conservancy is proud to once again partner with the United States Marine Corps through the Department of Defense Innovative Readiness Training program to bring troops to Catalina Island to restore sections of roadway, improving long-term sustainability. Reducing sediment loss, uncontrolled storm water flows and improving accessibility are important for roadways that will endure long into the future. Environmentally sound, modern practices will help ensure better management of water flow than century-old infrastructure that does not always take into account the natural drainage system of the Island. The project is scheduled to begin in April and will take approximately six weeks. We are grateful that we have found a fantastic partner to help improve sustainability on Catalina.
